Artist Statement
I strongly embrace the idea that meaningful, high-quality art can be produced at low cost. It is a pleasure to offer affordable original artwork to collectors, both new (including kids) and experienced.
Printmaking allows me to experiment with techniques and imagery that can be repeated in a variety of ways. Many of my print ideas emerge from painted or drawn studies which become final works on their own.
Illustration has intrigued me since childhood. Album and book covers play a special role adding visual dimension to other media, helping to engage curious minds.
I received a BFA in Studio Arts majoring in sculpture from Syracuse University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts and became very interested in scientific illustration while studying for a year in London. Subsequently, I gained a MSc in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine at the University of London. Working as an academic medicine hospital executive in complex cancer care delivery and research, I happily “burned the midnight oil” creating illustrations for academic papers, biotech reports, funding pitches, and university development magazines, all centered around explaining research methods and discoveries.
Currently, I consider myself the lucky owner/caretaker of a vintage French Tool Press made by its genre-changing originator. This press makes it possible to produce copper plate intaglio and relief prints using wood blocks, linoleum, and monoprints on paper and other media.
I have been accepted into a variety of shows ranging from national competitions to small “hyper-local” displays. Paintings, drawings and prints have been acquired by private collectors.
My intention is to use metaphor and allusion to engage reflection around social and environmental questions. I am particularly interested in the health of water systems and the resiliency of flora and fauna coping with plastics and other waste.
My volunteer efforts focus on advocating for organizations that contribute to building local arts across any form of media as a community-centered economic driver. I am a big advocate for affordable workspaces and opportunities for anyone wanting to exhibit or perform their art.
Working in Station Street Studios offers exposure to the perspectives and methods of other artists and the opportunity to explore other media.
